Best RV Roof Sealants
Choose compatible lap sealant for EPDM, TPO and roof penetrations—and avoid the common trim-caulk mistake.
Compare Current OptionsA roof leak can start around a vent flange, ladder mount, termination bar or a poorly maintained lap joint. The dangerous shortcut is treating every white cartridge marked “RV” as interchangeable. Some formulas are designed to flow across horizontal fasteners; others hold shape on trim; and one Geocel formula explicitly excludes the rubber roof membranes that another Geocel product supports.

01 RV roof sealant shortlist
These four products have different material and application limits; the right sealant is not a popularity contest.
Dicor positions 501LSW for horizontal roof seams, vent flanges, pipe penetrations and screw heads. Its flow makes it a poor choice for vertical trim where material would slump.
Sika describes a moisture-curing, silane-terminated polymer sealant with UV resistance and a semi-self-leveling profile for RV roof components.
Geocel lists this hybrid repair sealant for roof penetrations, flashings, seams and terminations, with a pull test recommended on all substrates.
Geocel Pro Flex RV is designed for expansion joints, trims, moldings and other compatible RV body materials. It is not a universal roof-membrane sealant.
02 Match sealant to roof material
Always check the specific product sheet: similarly named Geocel products have materially different membrane compatibility.

03 Four distinct repair products
The selections below are based on manufacturer-listed use cases and limitations, not fabricated hands-on weather testing.
Dicor Self-Leveling Lap Sealant 501LSW
Dicor positions 501LSW for horizontal roof seams, vent flanges, pipe penetrations and screw heads. Its flow makes it a poor choice for vertical trim where material would slump.
Best fit: Owners maintaining flat or gently sloped roof penetrations with compatible membranes.
Owners maintaining flat or gently sloped roof penetrations with compatible membranes.
Do not use this self-leveling formula on vertical surfaces or as membrane-splicing cement. Clean and dry the substrate according to Dicor instructions.

Check PriceSikaflex-715
Sika describes a moisture-curing, silane-terminated polymer sealant with UV resistance and a semi-self-leveling profile for RV roof components.
Best fit: Professional repair where the original roof substrate and previous sealant have been identified and compatibility tested.
Professional repair where the original roof substrate and previous sealant have been identified and compatibility tested.
Sika identifies this as a professional-use product. Existing sealant removal and adhesion testing are important; it is not intended for overpainting.

Check PriceGeocel ProFlex RV Hybrid Roof Repair Sealant
Geocel lists this hybrid repair sealant for roof penetrations, flashings, seams and terminations, with a pull test recommended on all substrates.
Best fit: Owners needing a flashing-grade product on a manufacturer-approved substrate rather than a general-purpose trim caulk.
Owners needing a flashing-grade product on a manufacturer-approved substrate rather than a general-purpose trim caulk.
Ponding-water areas require the specified ProFlex silicone topcoat; it is not compatible with ProFlex or other solvent-based roof coatings.
Manufacturer source: Official product page and technical guidance. No personal adhesion or durability testing is claimed.
Check PriceGeocel Pro Flex RV Flexible Sealant GC28901X
Geocel Pro Flex RV is designed for expansion joints, trims, moldings and other compatible RV body materials. It is not a universal roof-membrane sealant.
Best fit: Sidewall or trim repair where the manufacturer lists the exact substrate as compatible.
Sidewall or trim repair where the manufacturer lists the exact substrate as compatible.
Geocel explicitly excludes EPDM and TPO, plus acrylic skylight glazing. Do not substitute it for Dicor on a rubber or TPO roof.

Check Price04 Seven steps before resealing
A compatible product applied over the wrong substrate or wet, failing joint may still leak.
- Identify the roof membrane before selecting a tube: Confirm whether the RV has EPDM, TPO, PVC, fiberglass, metal or a coating system; product chemistry must be approved for the actual substrate.
- Distinguish horizontal lap joints from vertical trim: Self-leveling sealants flow across flat roof penetrations. Sidewall trim and vertical seams generally need an appropriate non-sag product.
- Inspect old sealant for adhesion and underlying damage: Cracks, loose edges and trapped moisture can indicate more than a surface defect. Repair damaged decking or failed roof details before cosmetic resealing.
- Check sealant-over-sealant compatibility: Do not assume new chemistry bonds to unknown old material. Remove incompatible residues and follow the manufacturer’s surface-preparation guidance.
- Clean, dry and prepare to the exact instructions: Dicor calls for dirt, oil and grease removal and a dry surface. Sika also emphasizes dry, clean substrates and adhesion testing.
- Plan for weather and cure conditions: Observe each product’s application temperature, skin time and cure instructions; a surface that looks dry may not be fully cured.
- Test the repair and inspect regularly: After curing, inspect edges, fasteners and transitions. Recheck after travel and severe weather; recurrent leaks require investigation beyond adding more caulk.
05 Choose by seam and membrane
Flat roof around vents and fasteners: Dicor 501LSW is designed to self-level on horizontal surfaces. It is not the right choice for vertical trim.
Professional roof sealing: Sikaflex-715 uses moisture-curing STP chemistry, but Sika calls for removal of previous products, substrate testing and professional application.
EPDM or aged TPO flashing repairs: Geocel ProFlex RV Hybrid lists these membranes; follow its pull-test and ponding-water limitations.
Aluminum or fiberglass trim: Standard Geocel Pro Flex RV can suit listed non-membrane materials, but its label excludes EPDM and TPO. Do not confuse it with the Hybrid product.
Roof covers or storage weatherproofing: A proper RV cover is not a substitute for repairing an active roof leak. For interior moisture after a leak, see RV dehumidifiers.
06 Frequently asked questions
What is the best sealant for an EPDM RV roof?
Use a product whose manufacturer explicitly lists EPDM compatibility. Dicor 501LSW, Sikaflex-715 and Geocel ProFlex RV Hybrid each list EPDM applications, but the correct choice depends on seam shape, previous sealant and roof-maker instructions.
Can I use self-leveling lap sealant on an RV sidewall?
Generally no. A self-leveling product is intended to flow on horizontal roof areas and can slump on vertical seams. Use a manufacturer-approved non-sag sealant for sidewalls.
Is Geocel Pro Flex RV safe for TPO or EPDM roofs?
No. Geocel explicitly lists TPO and EPDM as limitations for the standard Pro Flex RV Flexible Sealant. Its separately named Hybrid Roof Repair Sealant has different listed compatibility.
Can I apply new RV roof sealant over old caulk?
Only where the manufacturer allows it and the old material is clean, sound and compatible. Sika emphasizes removing pre-existing products for repairs to avoid compatibility problems.
Does roof sealant stop a leak permanently?
Sealant can restore a compatible joint, but it cannot correct rotten roof decking, failed flashing geometry or a moving joint that exceeds its design. Diagnose the leak source first.
How often should RV roof sealant be inspected?
Follow the RV and roof manufacturer’s maintenance schedule, and inspect after storms, travel or visible cracking. A universal interval cannot replace inspection of actual conditions.
07 Choose chemistry before price
Match the sealant to the membrane, joint orientation and existing repair materials. For most routine horizontal roof penetrations, start with the roof manufacturer’s approved lap sealant; reserve trim products for the compatible sidewall materials they actually list. If water intrusion has damaged the roof structure, sealing alone is not a complete repair.
